Time to get a few things outta my head that have been floating around in there.

First off:  to all those Red Sox fans who have stopped watching NESN and listening to WEEI, GOOD RIDDANCE!!!  A story was out earlier citing that viewership was down 36% as compared to last season.  I think it’s all those fringe fans, the “Pink Hatters” who liked the Sox when it was fashionable and hip to like the Sox.  Know the team faces a bit of adversity and they bail.  Good, we don’t want ya.  Stay away too, the Rays need some cheap fans go root for them.

Some people have even refered to the team as boring.  The Sports Guy just wrote a whole piece on ESPN.com on the topic.  I could not disagree more.  Yes it’s been tough watching all our best players go down but I have loved seeing the fill-ins step-up and produce.  The team has kept its head above water and now that they are getting their injured players back:  watch out.  The starting pitching is hitting it’s stride and Pedroia nd Ellsbury are about a week away.  Lets see the ratings and the excitement when the Sox are a game or two out in September.

Second: I am done with all this talk about American Idol and the Jersey Shore.  These are pointless and mind-numbing television shows.  AI has run its course and Jersey Shore is just TV crack.  All this hype for two jokes of a show while the best and most real reality show ends a season with little to no fanfare.  Deadliest Catch just wrapped up its finest season.  The way they dealt with the sudden death of Captain Phil Harris was superb TV producing.  It was classy and poignant.  The creators and producers and all other folks involved in the show should be proud of their efforts and deserve some recognition.  Seeing hard-worn men deal with the death of a gret friend was as real as TV can get and as well as TV can be done.

Third: NFL Training Camps kick off these next few days.  Oh Boy!  Only 35 days till I’m in Ann Arbor for Michigan/UConn.  Double Oh Boy!!  Only four weeks till my big fantasy football draft.  Triple Oh Boy!!!  Yep I love football and am psyched that it’s back in my life.  My wife on the other hand……..

Also, today was National Cheesecake Day so of course I made my self-proclaimed “world’s best cheesecake” for my AM peeps and it lived up to the hype.  It is the Usain Bolt of pastries.  Juniors in NYC ain’t got nothin on me.

Finally for those Photoshop, photography, WWII history buffs out there here is a cool link to a site that was forwarded to me.  This guy found old war pics and photoshopped them into the modern-day pictures of the locations.  Very cool indeed.

Enjoy the great weekend.  I feel some pool time is in my future.

The Grind

Boy, last week was long.  It had been a while since I worked a five-day week and it was tough.  I got spoiled by those three and four-day weeks.  I don’t know how people do it.

Ahhhhh, Aruba

I think I want to become a professional vacationer.  People can hire me to take their vaca’s a week ahead of time and I can research what places to eat or see.  It could be a great thing.

Thought I was golden after the Jets game on Saturday, then all my predictions went downhill.  I never took into account the fact that the Eagles and Patriots wouldn’t show up for their game.  Silly me, I thought the NFL playoffs were a big deal.  I guess those two teams are bored with making it every year.

That loud noise you heard and the smoke you smell is coming from the wreckage that was the “Jay Leno Show.”  I think “crash and burn” will now be replaced by “lenoing”.  What a train wreck.  I have an idea for NBC brass:  local news for an hour at ten, Leno form 11-11:30 and Conan at his normal time slot.  Hell, it can’t be as bad as before (at least I hope not.)

Saturday was the six-month mark and what did we do to celebrate:  we gave Avery her first taste of real food.  For the record it was carrots and she loved them.

The bad thing about this week:  American Idol starts.  Now I’m stuck hearing about this gawd-awful show till May.  Good god I want to stab out my eardrums with a q-tip!!!  Good thing Jack is back on Sunday!!!!

Round-Up

After a few days off from writing, a fair amount of stuff has gone down, so let’s get to it.

First things first.  Am I the only one laughing at Tiger’s transgressions?  The more women that come out, the more I think of all the things he has thrown away for a Perkins waitress et al.  Really, Perkins???  What was the Waffle House hostess out of your league?  What the hell gets into these guys.  I always knew he was an ass on the course, but apparently he liked a lot of it off the course as well.  The only victims of this are his kids.  At least they’ll get his money and maybe a better father-figure.

While I’m on the subject of morons, how about the buffoons in Litchfield who want to take off the yellow ribbons off the trees.  For what, some made up excuse about a disease?  C’mon guys, get your noses out of the air and come to your senses.  You may be against the wars but lets continue to show support for the troops and their families.

I’m seeing a lot of commercials for American Idol.  That means one thing.  Normal thinking and reasoning Americans turn their eyes to a glorified karaoke show for months at a time then take just as long to discuss why one no-talent hack beat out another no -alent hack.  Every time I hear these I want to smash my head through my desk.  Of course, I wish that we had it on our air.  Nice call to turn that down NBC execs.

Only two months and ten days till pitchers and catchers.  All I will say about the MLB Winter Meetings is this:  bring Bay back to the Back Bay!!  Pay the man!  Pay the man!! PAY THE MAN!!!!  DON’T MESS AROUND JUST GET IT DONE!!!!!  Thanks.

Finally, big ups to the UConn football team.  What it took to overcome all those close losses as well as the loss of a teammate was just remarkable.  They did it with class and pride.  Coach Edsall should be commended for his ability to rally his players.  Connecticut has waited a long time for a major football program.  Well, here they are and they deserve our support.  I have season tickets and plan on keeping them for a while.  This program has the potential to be a major player in East Coast football and if you want in, do it know.  Don’t be left behind.

Idol Schm-idol

I know that I am in a bit of a minority here, but thank all that is holy that American Idol is over.  There is not a show on TV that I loathe more.  It drives me nuts that it is all people talk about for days on end.  It kills me that other stations and TV shows(hello Today Show) cover the results which just gives free run for another network’s show(meanwhile NBC’s ratings against Idol are awful!!)  I guess that the fans think these singers have talent, all I hear are good or great songs butchered by amateurs(really its a fancy Karaoke night at a local bar!)

I can’t believe that dumbed-down fluff like Idol survive and are popular while great shows like West Wing, Studio 60, and Friday Night Lights, and others get cancelled or bumped to a random channel.  I give the Peacock credit for trying out new shows that are written well, acted well, and god forbid, actually make the viewers think and/or learn a little. The problem though,  is that since they are “critically acclaimed”(a true black mark in TV) and not widely popular the shows have no chance.

Meanwhile shows like Idol, Dancing with the Stars(really, how is ballroom dancing fun to watch), or Deal or no Deal(c’mon, winning money for picking a briefcase, good god!!!) all carry on.

I’m just sick of the whole thing.  I heard a little from both singers yesterday, and if that’s who was left, who the hell get voted off?  If these were the two best, the show is scrapping the bottom of the barrel.  Maybe, just maybe the show is reaching the end of its rope.

Jay: Idol Out!!!

Hale-Ray vs. HK today.  Can’t be more excited!!! Our kids are ready, our head coach Rich Gable has done a great job all year getting these kids ready for this day and if he didn’t win Shoreline Coach of the Year last night, it is an absolute shame.  Nine years ago he took over a program that had 1 win and 14 kids.  In 2004 we had a surprising run to the Sate semi’s, but as little as three years ago we had 4 wins.  This turn around has been nothing short of remarkable and our future looks bright.  Now its the kids time to go out and grab this opportunity by the horns and run with it.  God, I can’t wait till 3:30.  We could use some fans, so if you are around the Haddam area, stop by HK High School and cheer on the Noises!!!!!
