Sinking Feeling

Yesterday was a big day for me.

I took a large leap into this whole homeowner thing.

I, with the help of my wife, installed a new bathroom sink and faucet.

Ok, some of you may be laughing at me right about now, but you know what, I don’t care.  This is a big deal to me.  I had no prior knowledge on how to replace a sink.  My home repair’s usually involved a fair share of duct tape.

Our bathroom sink cracked last week when something fell into it.  It was leaking so I figured a replacement was do.  One, a new sink is relatively cheap and two I’m glad Nikki decided to get a new faucet because that actually came with some of the parts we needed.  No one really tells you that.

The biggest pain in the ass part was just getting the old sink off.  I had to use three types of knifes to cut around the seal and use a crowbar and a hammer to get the sink out.  Only one little bit of damage to the countertop that is fairly noticeable.  Luckily, a well placed soap dispenser hides the flaw.

After that though, it went relatively well.  I was able to install it with little yelling or swearing.  The faucet works properly and there are no leaks.  I’d call that a win/win.

Maybe, just maybe this will open the door for more projects.  Maybe a bathroom sink is like the gateway project.  It can lead into other things, like renovating our downstairs bath or finish sheet-rocking our basement.

Then again, maybe I’ll just quit now when I’m ahead…….
