Cancer Awareness

Tonight we have a huge basketball game against Old Saybrook.  A game that is we win will set us up really well for our conference tourney.  Normally a game like this would be the headliner but we are doing something much more important tonight as well.

We are raising money for cancer research.  Specifically for an organization called “Hoops for Hurlock.”  Matt Hurlock is the varsity boys basketball coach and the varsity girls volleyball coach at Coventry High.  In the summer of 2010 he was diagnosed with cancer and is now in a battle that far outweighs what he does on the court.  Coventry held a fundraising event a few weeks ago and raised thousands of dollars.  Our AD at Hale-Ray, who also happens to be the head boys coach decided to hold a fundraiser tonight for Coach Hurlock, who actually interviewed for the same job about ten years ago.  We our donating half the gate and whatever other money that is donated to his organization.

All coaches and staff will be wearing pink shirts in honor of him tonight.  Games start at 5:30 with the varsity jumping it up at 7.  Not only is it good hoops action on a Friday night, you know the money raised is going to help a great coach and an even better family man.

So, if you are in the area of East Haddam tonight, please think about stopping by to help us beat this awful condition.  Every dollar helps, you’ll see some good games and we as coaches look pretty good in pink.
