Good Night

and Good Luck in your retirement years John Madden.  You have been the top sports analyst for years, a peak that others have worked hard to climb but could never reach.  You will forever be remembered as one of the great broadcasters of all time.  It was time to go, in fact, I think you probably should have retired a few years ago.  You were once great, but you have lost a lot of life off your fastball the past few years.  It is time to bring in some younger blood to try and fill your shoes, and while you are at it, try and convince Al Michaels to ride off with you into the sunset.  You two have had your run, made your mark and your cash, but the NFL needs new voices.  NBC needs new faces for their NFL coverage.

Chris Collinsworth is a great start.  He is the next in line to Madden’s throne.  The man does an outstanding job of mixing hard football terms with easy to understand breakdowns.  I don’t know how well he and Michaels will work together, but I have a hunch it will be a bumpy ride.

My choice for Michaels seat(like it matters) is Bob Papa, the voice of the New York Giants and the NFL Network lead play-by-play guy.  Papa and Collinsworth already have worked as a pair in the booth on the NFL Network Thursday night games and they have been fantastic.  NBC wants to attract a better audience right?  Time to get rid of the oldies for a couple of up and comers.  A pair that they can build and succeed around.

  1. John Madden seemed to really love what he did for a living, especially for the last 30 years or so

    • he did love it, but that didn’t hide the fact that he had lost a little. In fact it probably made it even harder to walk away
