Andy: Ahh… the morning shift!

Call me crazy, but I love working the morning shift. I bound out of bed (ok, maybe crawl) around 1:30am. I shower the cobwebs out of my eyes and get going.

There’s something nice about having the open road ahead of you — where the only others you encounter are cops and delivery people. It’s as if we’re the only people important enough to be working.

There are other great perks: The pick of the parking lot, the (relatively) quiet newsroom, the occasional caffeine and pastry treats that make their way to the station.

Joining the morning team behind-the-scenes and in front of the camera is like going to a party where you know everyone — everyday! People stroll in at their appointed time. You’ll here, “Hey Pete. G’morning.” And, “Hi Tracy, how was your weekend?” It’s like an extended family, where we all acknowledge with a nod the fact that we’re crazy to be awake at that hour. But I also think many of us wouldn’t have it any other way.

Now I have to go get everyone coffee and donuts. I love joining you guys…
